World Golf Tour
World Golf Tour was one of the more unusual shoots that I worked on. What started as a four-week shoot on a South Carolina golf course became a full-time job for three years. I ended up being responsible for a team of 10 to 12 photographers that shot each golf course in a grid.
I got to shoot some of the best golf courses in the US and UK including Pebble Beach, Oakmont, Congressional and Bethpage Black in the US, and Royal St George, Celtic manor and the Old Course at St Andrew’s in the UK.
The best and most challenging part of the job was photographing each golf course from the air. Depending on the type of golf course, we would spend between 2 to 6 hours photographing each golf course. This gave me a lot of experience on how to do aerial photography, the best helicopters to use, how to brief pilots, and was very valuable in getting me up to speed for when I wanted to shoot aerial photography on my own.
Aerial Photography was used extensively in the game. Here's an example of the Score Card used at the beginning of each hole.
Below are more screenshots of Hole 4 at Royal St. George's. The score card and the second screenshot shows the notorious Himalaya bunker, the UK's largest bunker on a championship course.
One of the most photogenic courses was Edgewood in Lake Tahoe. The course looked amazing from the air with the lake and mountains in the background. The two courses at the Four Seasons in Lanai weren’t too shabby as well.
